We're grateful for help filling open dates with virtual concerts, library programs, workshops, and Special Music Services. We are making tentative plans to return to the road in January 2021 if conditions allow.

How are you holding up? The heat and humidity are throwing an oppressive blanket over these Blue Ridge hills, so Pandemic Summer is underway. At least we had Hamilton to kick it off, but it definitely will be the weirdest and possibly the most dangerous summer of my lifetime. I am grateful for a roof overhead and AC beneath, and for mobility to be sure, but it definitely does not feel like time to let down my guard about hand washing and face masks as I go about my business.

That business continues this Thursday July 9th with probably my last ticketed website concert for the next few weeks. If you are willing to come, and to tell ten friends to come with you, we'll all pack in my living room for a couple hours of music and camaraderie. You get a front row seat, no one risks getting sick, and best of all your favorite beverages and snacks (or dinner) are on the menu! This is my one attempt to make up for missing summer tour and festival revenue, so I greatly appreciate you keeping the lights on and the music flowing - get your tickets here and your email receipt has the concert link. You can even gift a friend once you've gotten the link, and perhaps they will be moved to join in the fun. All are all welcome here in our humble house!

I am busy these next weeks, although I am hopeful about getting some much-needed humble vacationing on a mountaintop and with my feet in the ocean too. I've got one more Treasures livestreaminar coming up for those interested in exploring Northern Ireland heritage, and I'll keep doing my free half-hour Musical Mondays every couple of weeks on Facebook Live. The Sunday morning schedule over the rest of the summer is full, sharing musical medicine for the soul to a variety of different Unitarian congregations.

Mostly around that is a mix of down time with planning a couple big projects for this autumn, and figuring out how to help my 8th grader with 100% distance learning - for the first semester anyway - preferably while preserving some domestic tranquility. None of this is ideal, nor is it insurmountable. It is different and alien, outside the old boundaries and comfort zones we crave and whose absence we now lament. There is no normal to return to, so now we are left with "what are going to make of it?" (I had a few thoughts on that for the July 4 holiday, "Seeing the Stories with a Different Lens").

I'm ever the optimist. I can't see the world any other way, endowed as we are with creativity and caring, while burdened with our human failings and flaws too. Whatever this "new normal" will be, I plan to be here and fully human, sharing whatever I've got that means something to someone.

You're worth every bit of that. I hope to see you Thursday night to tell you so "in person."

Have you done a DNA test to learn more about your family history? Andrew can help you get the most out of your results, and preserve and share what you've learned - learn about his Ancestories consulting work here.
