For the past several months, Andrew has served on a committee with the Virginia Commission for the Arts to develop and present an online festival of the Commonwealth's rich performing arts talent. Virginia is home to so much great music - the mountain music and the Crooked Road of the southwest, the high culture of the Capital area, blues and jazz, and the cosmopolitan cultural brew of northern Virginia. The VCA has been working tirelessly on a number of fronts to help support arts venues and performing artists during the pandemic, including this first-ever online festival.
The VCA's Virtual Showcase will be broadcast over several weeks this autumn, and marks the first time that the Commission has been involved with marketing artists and their work directly to the public, as opposed to grantees and presenters. They have partnered with Virginia Public Media, the state's Tourism Council and a variety of other entities to bring the festival to as large an audience as possible.
Five regional showcases are planned, with a statewide grand finale to follow. The shows will range from classical to country, and everything in between - representing that rich diversity of music, dance and theater. As soon as a schedule is announced, we'll add it here - and look forward to sharing an amazing array of our talented neighbors here in the Commonwealth with you!
