Many of my veteran friends say that Memorial Day is to remember the fallen, and that Veterans Day is the appropriate time to honor their service. I believe that every day is a day to honor their service, and every day is a day to work to end war. A utopian ideal given the nature of our species, but that doesn't make it any less of a worthy goal - to stop the sacrifice of the precious young to advance the aims of nation-states. Every vet has lost some of those precious young comrades, and to each vet, this day is about them. As we honor the fallen, may we soon bring all of our loved ones safe home from defending our freedom in distant and dangerous lands. The list of those ultimate sacrifices is way too long already.
