Workshop: "Help! I Keep Using the Same 4 Chords and I Can't Get Up"

For young adult to adult musicians and songwriters: classroom program, workshop or residency

One of the most common songwriting ruts is to begin recycling variations of the same I-IV-V chord structure most common and comfortable to the Western ear. This workshop uses some elementary applied music theory based on the simple Major Scale to help find exciting new musical avenues for your creativity.

Learn how to add new colors, textures and diversity to your songwriting through techniques like moving bass lines, added grace notes, reaching for unusual chord changes, and following some of your instruments natural inclinations. Some elementary chord and scale theory will be taught but prior knowledge can't hurt. Circle of Fifths will be taught and used.
