"a very personable presenter who explained difficult concepts very simply and gave great examples"
- Don Bridges, President, Songwriter's Association of Washington

"captivated his songwriting students with examples of musical styles, rhythms and mood-setting guitar riffs ... adeptly wove in musical theory and song structure throughout in a way that made sense ... encouraging and casual throughout. What a way to learn!"
- Judy Matzen, Off Square Music, Woodstock, IL

"Great program with Andrew McKnight! I could listen to him for hours, and I wish I had the time!"
- Dr. Randall Hollister, Headmaster, Loudoun Country Day School

"His use of interactive, creative exercises gave all an opportunity to leave the sessions with tangible evidence of their growth as songwriters. A 1st-class professional presentation from a true craftsman."

Group Workshops with Beyond Borders

As an artist, Andrew often combines his interest in geography, history and music to create original songs, poetry and prose. For educators who wish to present workshops within an existing class day format, workshops can be condensed to 30-45 minute repetitive time blocks designed to bridge age-appropriate concurrent subject matter from classwork with writing exercises for each group.

These offerings are also available as more intensive Artist-in-Residency programs. A Residency can be tailored to meet the needs of a presenter's specific format, such as repeating the same set of workshops for different groups each day of the residency, or doing an intensive set of songwriting and performance workshops with one or more groups over 1 to 3 days. Please inquire about specific program needs or additional information.

Whether solo or with his band Beyond Borders, Andrew's presentations have three common goals:

  • To provide a nurturing and inspiring environment for individual creativity and learning
  • To provide a usable understanding of some of the tools and techniques needed both for the workshop and for subsequent independent subject exploration
  • To provide "hands-on" opportunities to build confidence in successfully applying the acquired knowledge and skills
